What you need
- Age 18 or over
- National ID. Passports and ID replacement certificates are NOT accepted for the definitive test
- A phone number linked to your ID (dial *125# to check) and/or email
Steps
- Learn the highway code (a driving school helps).
- On Irembo (Police section), register and pay for the provisional driving test, then pick the nearest test centre.
- Take the computer test. Pass mark: 60% at Busanza, or 12/20 at other centres. Results come right away.
- Within 2 years of passing, apply for your e-provisional licence on Irembo (or *909#) and pay Rwf 10,000. You can download it as soon as you pay.
- Practise driving with an instructor.
- On Irembo, register for the definitive driving test (Rwf 10,000) in one category: A (moto), B (car) or F. The SMS gives your registration code, test date and centre. Pay within 8 hours or the bill expires.
- Pass the practical test, then apply for the definitive licence on Irembo using your test registration code.
Tips
- The provisional licence lasts 2 years, so book the practical test before then.
- Have a foreign licence? Rwanda National Police has a separate exchange process.
