What you need
- Plate number and TIN (plus company code for companies)
- No unpaid traffic fines
- A phone number and/or email
Steps
- Pay any traffic fines first (see the traffic fines guide).
- On irembo.gov.rw choose Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) 1st visit appointment.
- Enter your plate number and TIN, then choose the centre and date.
- Pay within 1 hour, or the billing number expires. You get an SMS/email confirming the appointment.
- Bring the car to the centre on the day with the payment message.
- If it passes, you get the inspection certificate at the centre. The emission certificate can also be downloaded from Irembo.
Tips
- Private vehicles: once a year. Commercial vehicles: twice a year.
- Failed? Book the 2nd visit within 14 days: 20% of the fee for a technical fail, 50% for an emissions fail. After 14 days you pay the full fee again.
- Motorcycles use a separate emission testing service.
